This sport became prominent in the early 1990s when Royce Gracie brought BJJ to the Ultimate Fighter Championships\, or more well known today as UFC. BJJ is a sport that is successfully practiced by men\, women\, and children of different ages\, shapes\, sizes and physical abilities. It truly is a sport for everyone. Children practicing Jiu-Jitsu are rewarded with a sense of confidence\, athleticism and focus\, while building knowledge of self-defense\, which helps in the bully proofing of our youth. \nNot only is BJJ a physical challenge\, it is also a mental challenge. The physical demands are a combination of cardiovascular endurance\, speed\, strength training and developing a strong grip to maintain positioning in a match. A small error during a match can drastically affect the outcome of matches. Many athletes declare that the mental preparation is the most challenging obstacle\, whether it is their first tournament as a White Belt\, or an established World Champion Black Belt. It takes a lot of heart and courage to take the lessons from everyday training and apply them in a tournament setting\, with hundreds of people watching.
