SUMMARY:Billy Talent with Special Guests Gob
DESCRIPTION:BILLY TALENT\nWith Special Guests Gob\nFriday\, October 13\, 2023\nSouth Okanagan Events Centre\, Penticton BC\nTickets:\n$50.50 and $65.50*\n*Additional fees apply\nJuno Award-Winning Billy Talent is heading to the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) Penticton on Friday\, October 13 with special guests Gob. \nABOUT BILLY TALENT:\nCanadian punk quartet Billy Talent spent the latter part of the 1990s building a hard-won grassroots following before breaking out into mainstream success in 2003 when their Juno Award-winning debut Billy Talent went quadruple-platinum\, sending them on an upward trajectory for much of the decade. As they began to incorporate new elements into their music\, their fans followed\, helping to lift each of their subsequent studio albums — including the multi-platinum Billy Talent II and III — to the top of the Canadian Albums chart. By the time of 2016’s Afraid of Heights\, Billy Talent had become a highly decorated rock act with an international fan base and years of hard touring to their credit. After a six-year gap\, they returned with their sixth set\, 2022’s Crisis of Faith\, which landed 3 consecutive #1 songs at Canadian Rock Radio\, leading to two Juno Nominations. \nABOUT GOB:\nYou wouldn’t be too hard pressed to come up with a lengthy list of bands to have popped up over the last two decades that borrow from seminal Canadian pop-punk outfit Gob. Coming up with a list of bands that Gob borrows from\, on the other hand\, is a much tougher task – especially after getting a taste of their latest full-length release\, Apt 13. \nOver the course of their career\, which dates back to 1993 and includes a catalog of seven LPs\, the members of Gob – vocalist/guitarist Tom Thacker\, vocalist guitarist Theo Goutzinakis\, drummer Gabe Mantle\, and bassist Steven Fairweather – have established themselves as Canadian pop punk pioneers. They’ve amassed JUNO nominations\, made massively popular music videos for singles like “I Hear You Calling” and “Give Up The Grudge\,” and kept legions of loyal fans packed into pits in front of the stage at countless venues – from dive bars to major festival stages the world over.

SUMMARY:TEDDY & TOQUE TOSS: Penticton Vees vs. Salmon Arm Silverbacks
DESCRIPTION:TEDDY & TOQUE TOSS\nPresented by Bannister Chevrolet Penticton\nThe annual “Teddy & Toque Toss” event hosted by the Penticton Vees is scheduled for Saturday\, December 9th\, against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC)\, presented by Bannister Chevrolet Penticton. \nThis season\, the focus has shifted from stuffed toys to a call for new or gently used winter outerwear (including toques\, gloves\, jackets\, etc.) for all age groups\, as well as new and packaged diapers. It is emphasized that food and cash donations should not be thrown onto the ice. \nThe game night sponsor\, Bannister Chevrolet Penticton\, will be on-site with great prizes to be won! This one-of-a-kind production\, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca\, was performed for the first time in Montreal in April 2005. Since its creation\, the show has dazzled over 10 million people\, in 20 countries on 4 continents. Corteo\, presented by Sun Life\, will be presented at the South Okanagan Event Centre for 8 performances only\, from January 4th to January 7th\, 2024. \nCorteo\, which means cortege in Italian\, is a joyous procession\, a festive parade imagined by a clown. Combining acrobatic feats\, comedy\, and acting\, the show plunges spectators into a theatrical world of fun and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth. \nIn a carnival atmosphere\, the clown pictures his own funeral taking place\, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small\, the ridiculous with the tragic\, and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection\, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown\, as well as his wisdom and kindness\, to illustrate the share of humanity within each of us. The music sometimes turns lyrical\, sometimes playful\, carrying Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality. \nThe stage is central in the arena and divides the venue in two with each half of the audience facing the other half\, giving a unique perspective to the audience and the performers. A never seen before atmosphere at a Cirque du Soleil arena show. The set curtains\, inspired by the Eiffel Tower\, and the central curtains\, which were hand-painted\, give a grandiose feel to the stage. This sets the tone for the poetry of Corteo. \n\n\nA travel advisory is currently in effect between Penticton and Peachland on Highway 97. Travel time may be extended. Those coming from the Central and North Okanagan are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly. \nFor more information\, visit www.drivebc.ca.
