SUMMARY:JOURNEY with guest Neal "Vortex" Schon
DESCRIPTION:EZ ROCK proudly presents one of the most iconic American rock bands in history\, JOURNEY with special guest Neal “Vortex” Schon at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) on July 10\, 2015! \nHow many bands grow even more iconic with each passing year? It’s a short list\, and on it is Journey. Through all its phases and eras\, twists and turns the band sees its music become more popular as the years go on. The roadie who suggested the band name “Journey” truly had a vision. \nIn a career spanning five decades\, Journey is blazing hotter than ever with the lineup of Neal Schon (guitars\, backing vocals)\, Jonathan Cain (keyboards\, backing vocals)\, Ross Valory (bass\, backing vocals) and Arnel Pineda (lead vocals). \nThe band has reached heights that likely no other artist can hit these days\, with its Greatest Hits album hitting 15-million-plus in sales. It’s not luck; it’s persistent\, hard work over the years. When TV shows like Glee and The Sopranos made the song “Don’t Stop Believin’” a sensation decades after its release\, it’s because that music endured. Since the group’s formation in 1973\, the band has earned 19 Top 40 singles and 25 Gold and Platinum albums. “Don’t Stop Believin’\,” Schon said\, “has become this national anthem\, world anthem. It’s really wild. If somebody plays it\, no matter where\, everybody sings it.” \nThrough the years\, Journey has kept the music alive with classic-rock airplay and a touring schedule most bands can’t or won’t match. With the changes and upheavals in the music industry\, nothing can replace the live concert experience. \n“The one thing that remains the same is live performances\,” Schon said. “So that’s why we’re still here doing this. It’s the one thing that can’t be hacked and one thing that you absolutely have to show up live to be able to do. And so I still love it.” \nThe hits came coming\, with the new album Revelation debuting at #5 in 2008 and continuing their streak of platinum albums. A two-year world tour sealed Pineda’s place as the voice of Journey. A new album came with Eclipse – this time with Pineda’s full participation as a band member and songwriter. And the TV exposure of “Don’t Stop Believin’” made the song is the #1 digital catalog song in history\, with sales of more than 5.4 million in the U.S. \nFor more information\, visit www.journeymusic.com \nTickets for JOURNEY with special guest Neal “Vortex” Schon at the SOEC are $49\, $69\, $89 and $109* (*plus applicable fees) and go on sale to the general public on Friday\, February 6 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.ValleyFirstTix.com\, by telephone at 1.877.SOEC.TIX (763.2849) or in person at the Valley First Box Office (at the SOEC) and Wine Country Visitor Centre.

SUMMARY:Western Canadian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships
DESCRIPTION:Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)\, also known as ‘The Gentle Art’\, is a martial art\, combat sport and self-defense art\, which primarily focuses on grappling and submission. This sport became prominent in the early 1990s when Royce Gracie brought BJJ to the Ultimate Fighter Championships\, or more well known today as UFC. BJJ is a sport that is successfully practiced by men\, women\, and children of different ages\, shapes\, sizes and physical abilities. It truly is a sport for everyone. Children practicing Jiu-Jitsu are rewarded with a sense of confidence\, athleticism and focus\, while building knowledge of self-defense\, which helps in the bully proofing of our youth. \nNot only is BJJ a physical challenge\, it is also a mental challenge. The physical demands are a combination of cardiovascular endurance\, speed\, strength training and developing a strong grip to maintain positioning in a match. A small error during a match can drastically affect the outcome of matches. Many athletes declare that the mental preparation is the most challenging obstacle\, whether it is their first tournament as a White Belt\, or an established World Champion Black Belt. It takes a lot of heart and courage to take the lessons from everyday training and apply them in a tournament setting\, with hundreds of people watching. The reward of overcoming both the mental and physical obstacles are second to none. \nBrazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Canada is a fast growing sport\, that embraces the notion of a close knit community where promoters\, school owners\, competitors\, supporters and sponsors can all come together to unite for the love of the sport. The CBJJF is dedicated 100% to growing this sport in a safe and respectable manner where everyone is welcome to compete. \nDoors to the Western Canadian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships at the SOEC open at 8:00AM with matches scheduled throughout the day from 9:00AM until 6:00PM. Tickets are ONLY available at the door and are $10.00 for adults. Children (13 to 18) and the second parent are $5.00. Children (12 and under) and seniors are FREE.

SUMMARY:Cirque du Soleil VAREKAI - 7:30PM Show
DESCRIPTION:Penticton\, BC: A dormant volcano\, a mystical forest and an ancient prophecy… The adventure of Icarus begins.\nDeep within a forest\, at the summit of a volcano\, exists an extraordinary world-a world where something is possible. A world called Varekai.\nThe sky lets go a solitary young man\, and the story of Varekai begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest\, a kaleidoscopic world imbued with fantastical creatures\, a young man takes flight in an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time\, in this place of pure and undiluted possibility\, begins an inspired incantation to a life rediscovered and to a newly found wonder in the mysteries of the world and the mind. \nThe word Varekai (pronounced ver•ay•’kie) means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers. Directed by Dominic Champagne\, this production pays tribute to the nomadic soul\, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition\, and to those who quest with infinite passion along the path that leads to Varekai. \nShow Details\nCirque du Soleil will perform in Penticton with Varekai at the South Okanagan Events Centre from May 13 -17\, 2015 for seven performances only. \nTickets \nTickets are on sale now at www.cirquedusoleil.com/varekai and www.ValleyFirstTix.com\, by calling 1.877.SOEC.TIX (763.2849) or in person at the Valley First Box Office (at the SOEC) and Wine Country Visitor Centre.\nTicket prices range from $25 – $130* (subject to change\, plus applicable fees).
