SUMMARY:Rock The Bid - 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts
DESCRIPTION:A group of volunteers is urging BC curling fans to “Rock the Bid” and help them bring the Scotties Tournament of Hearts\, one of Curling Canada’s premier events\, to Penticton in 2018. The Penticton host committee has until June 30 to submit a bid on to Curling Canada. \nThe SOEC is perfect for the event as the competition venue and the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre\, where the Party (the Patch) will be held\, are connected via an enclosed walkway. We are confident that we can put on a first class event. We just need the public to get behind this and purchase a full event pass” said Kirkham. \nAn event of this magnitude will bring a significant economic benefit to the City of Penticton\, during a time of year when it is really needed. Along with national television exposure and an opportunity to highlight the area\, there will be an arena audience expected to be in excess of 80\,000 over the 8 days of competition. Attendees will provide economic spinoffs through hotel stays\, shopping\, dining and other tourism activities. Economic benefit to this event is estimated to be $6-$12M. \nA host of volunteers\, along with the City of Penticton and the SOEC were successful in conducting a previous Curling Canada event\, the 2013 Continental Cup and demonstrated that the facilities\, services and volunteer base were excellent and well positioned to host a bigger event\, like the Scotties. \nTo show it has the support of curling fans\, the committee has set a goal of collecting 1\,000 deposits of $100 each on full event tickets\, for the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts\, before June 20. \nA strong response\, over the next 6 weeks\, will greatly increase the chance of a successful bid. Orders can be placed at Valley First Box office at the SOEC\, via phone at 1-877-SOEC.TIX (250-763-2849) or ValleyFirstTix.com. Additional information on the event can be viewed at www.rockthebid.com.

We can’t wait to get out there and see what kind of Old Dominion fans we have around the world. It’s amazing when we hear from our fans out there – so we couldn’t be more excited to bring our music to them face to face.” \nThe announcement of their world tour follows the release of their acclaimed sophomore album Happy Endings\, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and at #7 on the Top 200 following its release. SUMMARY:Power 104's POWERBALL ft. Shinedown & guests
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed rockers Shinedown announce their 2018 Canadian Tour with the first leg of dates set to kick off at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton\, BC on March 27th. Joining Shinedown are American Alternative rock bands In This Moment and 10 Years as well as Canadian rockers’ One Bad Son. Tickets go on sale this Friday\, December 15th at 10am PT. \nShinedown have built their name on rock songs both brutal in power and epic in scope. Now\, with their latest album\, Shinedown (Brent Smith\, Barry Kerch\, Eric Bass\, and Zach Myers) veer away from that densely layered sonic palette and take a more direct approach. Featuring lead single “Cut the Cord” — a blistering track that shot to #1 on Active Rock radio — Threat to Survival finds the multi-platinum-selling band achieving their most powerful sound ever and offering up their most important album to date. \nAs Smith explains\, Shinedown’s approach on Threat to Survival had much to do with the emotionally raw material at the heart of the album. “When we started the writing process we realized the changes that had taken place over the past 2 years\, our experiences\, and the relationships that had come and gone\, the album really took on a life of its own\,” says Smith. “It’s like the songs were saying to us\, ‘The songs were so honest\, it felt necessary to present them in the most straightforward way possible.” \nShinedown continually bring both staggering musicality and a powerful emotional complexity to their music. “There’s always been a certain level of positivity with Shinedown — that’s even where our name came from\,” says Smith. “There’s a sense that everything that’s bad has a little bit of good to it\, just like everything that’s good has a little bit of bad. The songs on this album address the reality that we’re all going to die at some point and that sometimes the willingness to survive is all you have. It’s about holding onto that sheer will to live\, and getting through whatever might come your way because the legacy that you leave behind is what will carry you on to your next journey.” \nTickets for Power 104’s POWERBALL featuring Shinedown with special guests In This Moment\, One Bad Son and 10 Years are $39.50* and $59.50* and go on sale to the general public on Friday\, December 15th at 10am PT. Tickets can be purchased online at valleyfirsttix.com\, by phone 1.877.763.2849 or in person at the Valley First Box Office (at the SOEC).\n(*additional service fees apply)
